MUMBAI: Two men were arrested by the Mumbai Central Government Railway Police on Thursday for the murder of a 30-year-old woman. Anita Baldade was strangled with her own sari at the Dadar railway yard and her decomposed body was found on March 20. One of the arrested men was Baldade’s boyfriend, Prashant Dhanokar. GRP officials said that the murder had been committed by four people and a manhunt had been launched to find the remaining accused. Baldade, a native of Jalgaon, sold vegetables near Dadar station, while Dhanokar was a coolie. Dhanokar was having a relationship with another woman, Shevanta Sadaphule. “Kailash, Shevanta’s son, wanted Dhanokar to marry his mother. But Baldade was exerting pressure on Dhanokar to tie the knot with her. Kailash teamed up with Dhanokar to plot Baldade’s murder,” ACP Dattatreya Sidham said. Kailash roped in two friends, Raju Batla and Manoj, who are now on the run. While questioning hawkers in Dadar, the police learnt that a woman had not been coming to work for some time. When the hawkers were shown Baldade’s photograph, they confirmed that it was her and told the police about Baldade’s affair with Dhanokar. Dhanokar had disappeared after the murder. The police checked his cellphone records and found that he had received threatening calls from Kailash. “We found that Kailash has a criminal record. Kailash’s mother had started living with Dhanokar in Akola. But his family opposed the match and threw them both out of the house. Incensed by the treatment meted out to his mother, Kailash threatened Dhanokar,” senior inspector Bharat Rane said. Acting on a tip-off, the GRP nabbed Dhanokar and Kailash in Tardeo on Thursday. A railway court remanded them in police custody till May 16. The duo told the police that they had summoned Baldade to the yard, where they strangled her. The body was then dumped under a tree.
